Welcome to our English class!
¡Bienvenidos a nuestra clase! Información en español es disponible en la página de mi clase abajo.
Teaching is my first love and I am thrilled to be able to continue working directly with a class of students while supporting the school as our IB Coordinator.
I have three goals for my students:
Goal #1: For every student to become a skilled, passionate, habitual, critical reader. The only way to become a better reader is to read. A lot. Everyday. I believe that anyone who doesn’t love reading just hasn’t found the right book yet, and I am going to dedicate myself to helping you discover those books for yourself.
Goal #2: For every student to become a skilled, confident, habitual, writer. The only way to become a better writer is to write. A lot. Everyday. Everyone has something to say in their writing, and I will help you each write more and better than you ever have before.
Goal #3: For every student to understand what it means to be an International Baccalaureate (IB) student in the 21st century. People who are prepared to make a more just and peaceful world need a special kind of education. We will investigate how to be responsible members of our local, national, and global communities and— as the IBO mission statement says— be “inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.” Our educational arsenal is built with technology but we will try to always question it. As IB learners we will strive to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced
All learning is contextual; we have GLOBAL contexts because we aim to increase international mindedness. Our Middle Years Program (MYP) global contexts are:
• identities and relationships
• orientation in time and space
• personal and cultural expression
• scientific and technical innovation
• globalization and sustainability
• fairness and development
