California Safe Schools is children’s environmental health and environmental justice coalition founded in 1998. Every year, they celebrate individuals on Earth Day whose extraordinary efforts make our world a much better place. Out of more than 50 nominees, Mia Torres, an 8th grade Magnet student from El Sereno Middle School, was selected for her outstanding academic excellence, and for creating a program through her IB Community Project that provides personal health kits to hundreds of homeless women throughout Los Angeles. Mia’s selfless efforts prove that you are never too young to make a difference. Congratulations Mia! Also, congratulations to El Sereno Middle School and Magnet Center for their leadership in creating an environment where students are taught to respect others, and encouraged to make the world a much better place.
