Friday Morning Announcements
February 14, 2020
Good morning IB college-bound scholars! This is Natalia Rodriguez, your ASB President, and special guest ASB Communicators with your Friday Morning Leadership Announcements:
For the month of February, our IB Learner Profile Attribute is Balanced: Balanced students understand the importance of intellectual, physical and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being for themselves and others. Be a Balanced IB student today and every day, and you, your class, your, school, your family, your friends, your community, your nation and your world will be better off and more peaceful because of it.
February is Black History Month. This is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history. Today we would like to take a moment to recognize Oscar Nominated director Ava DuVerney. She directed such films as Selma, 13th, and A Wrinkle in Time. She is the first African-American woman to be nominated for the Golden Globe for best director and her film nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture. She is also the first female director to direct a live action film with a budget of over $150 million dollars. She is also part of a group that launched the Evolve Entertainment Group, whose mission is to promote inclusion and provide opportunity for under-served communities to pursue a dream in the entertainment industry.
8th Graders! The 8th grade shirts are here! These shirts have everyone’s name on the back, and you will be allowed to wear them every Friday! They are on sale for $10 in room B-49. Come by at nutrition or after school to buy your shirt before we run out of your size!
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Pennies for Patients drive. Our school donated over $500! Special shout outs to Mr. Bowerbank’s and Ms. Gochoel’s first period classes for their major donations, but the big winner is… Ms. Schooler’s class! Congratulations! Once again you’ll be enjoying that pizza party!
Today we are combining two big events – Lawn Chair Friday and the Cupid’s Ball! If you bought a ticket, you will be receiving a yellow wristband during second period today. Those who were recommended by their teachers will also receive a wristband. Use it to get out of period 5 a few minutes early for lunch and join us in the big gym for music and fun!
Next Thursday is our 6th Grade Handball tournament. 6th grade teachers, please have your students sign up on the flyer and place it in Ms. Jauregui’s box as soon as possible. Or, students, come to B-49 to sign up.
Safe and Civil Reminder – Electronics Policy: Students – LAUSD policy states that cell phones must be turned off and put away in your backpack during the school day. If your cell phone is out, it may be confiscated by school personnel and only your parent can pick it up. Thank you in advance for being Principled and for adhering to District and school policy. Be Respectful, be Responsible, be Safe, and be Jaguar Paws-itive.
Jaguar Paws: Earn your Jaguar Paws by demonstrating the skills, qualities and characteristics of IB Learners. On Fridays we raffle off prizes to lucky students who have earned and turned in their Jaguar Paws to the Main Office. Good luck to everyone!
Thank you for your attention and have a great day!
