October 15, 2018
Good morning International Baccalaureate college-bound scholars – this is Alondra Nava with your Monday Morning Announcements:
For the month of October, our IB Learner Profile Attribute is Thinkers: Thinkers can write an argument and support claims with logical reasoning and relevant, accurate data and evidence that demonstrate an understanding of the topic or text, using credible sources. Are you a Thinker? Be a Thinker today and every day, and you, your class, your, school, your family, your friends, your community, your nation and your world will be better off and more peaceful because of it.
Important Announcements from Principal Dara: Coming soon! T.E.A.M Awards for all students who have As, Bs, and Cs, and no Ds or Fs on their 10 week report cards. This is a year-long competition so remember; you have to be in it to win it! Also, this Thursday we are having Parent/Teacher Conferences from 1:15 to 3:00 PM and from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. All report cards will be available from your period 1 teachers. Remind your parents and bring them to Parent/Teacher Conferences! This Thursday and Friday are both minimum days and school will be dismissed at 12:38 PM. Lastly, teachers, please remember to submit your attendance during the first 15 minutes of every period every day. Your attention to this matter is very much appreciated! Be on the T.E.A.M. because Together El Sereno Achieves More.
Safety Drills: On Tuesday we will be having a Lockdown drill and on Thursday we will be conducting the California Shakeout earthquake drill. It’s important that we take these drills seriously so in the event of a real emergency everyone will know what to do.
Attention Teachers and Students: We are still missing some emergency forms; please turn in your emergency forms as soon as possible to the Attendance Office. Thank you.
Important Announcements from Leadership: This Wednesday will be the first Flag Football game! Come out to watch our teams play in our El Sereno Middle School Championship to see who the best team is! Also, Candygrams are going on sale today for only $1each! Send your friends a sweet note and candy with a Halloween Candygram. And, Halloween is coming fast! On Halloween, come dressed up and compete in our Lunchtime competitions for prizes for the funniest, the scariest and most elaborate costume. Remember: your costume must be appropriate for school: no weapons, masks, painted faces, or revealing costumes will be permitted. Get your trick-or-treat on early by coming dressed in your favorite Halloween costume next Wednesday! Additionally, our first dance of the year is coming up! Join us at the Skull-o-Ween Dance on Friday, November 2nd from 3:30pm – 5pm in the small gym. Tickets will be on sale for $1 at the Student Store, from room B-49, or at the Leadership table in the Purple Commons. Finally, this week is Stomp Out Bullying Pledge Week! GSA Club Meets Mondays: The GSA club meets during 2nd lunch in room B-55 every Monday. GSA helps build alliances across gender identity and/or sexual orientation. Join the GSA club on Mondays during 2nd lunch in room B-55.
Safe and Civil Reminder – Jaguar Voice Levels: Students – Be a Principled and Caring Communicator and remember to always use the proper Jaguar Voice Levels. Voice level 0 means silence, no talking. Voice level 1 is a whisper. Voice level 2 is for conversations that only people at your table will hear. Voice level 3 is for answering a question, reading out loud, or making a presentation so that everyone in the class can hear you. Voice level 4 is a roar – it is your loudest voice and should only be used when you are outside. Thank you in advance for being Principled IB Communicators and for using the proper Jaguar Voice Levels. Be Respectful, be Responsible, be Safe, and be Jaguar Paws-itive.
Jaguar Paws: Earn your Jaguar Paws by demonstrating the skill, qualities and characteristics of IB Learners. On Fridays we raffle off prizes to lucky students who have earned and turned in their Jaguar Paws to the Main Office. Good luck to everyone!
Thank you for your attention and have a great day!
