Discipline Policy
Goal: To ensure and encourage a safe, orderly and clean environment where people interact with courtesy and respect.
- Responsible Hallway Movement Behavior for Students
- Walk directly to class or other destination (“Walk and Talk”);
- Walk on the right side of the hallways when in the buildings;
- Stay to the right on the stairways;
- Discard or store all food and drinks before entering buildings and classrooms;
- Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself;
- Voice level no higher than 3 in the hallways
- Use courtesy words if you accidentally bump someone (“Excuse Me”, “Sorry”, “Pardon Me”)
- If your teacher is not at the classroom door, form a line along the wall. Do not block the hallway;
- Policy is to be followed with regular and substitute teachers.

- Stay to the right on the stairways;
- Discard or store all food and drinks before entering classrooms;
- Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself;
- Use courtesy words if you accidentally bump someone (“Excuse Me”, “Sorry”, “Pardon Me”)
- Policy is to be followed with regular and substitute teachers.
Responsible PE Area Movement Behavior for Students
- Walk directly to locker room (“Walk and Talk”)
- Dress quickly;
- Go to assigned area, sit in assigned spot, and wait for instructions.
Staff Responsibilities
- Teachers actively supervise during passing periods
- Locate yourself outside of your classroom door;
- Use encouraging words;
- Make eye contact with students;
- Remind students to “Walk and Talk”;
- Greet students as they pass by you or enter your classroom.
- Teachers designate entrance and exit procedures for their classroom.
- Acknowledge use of profanity/inappropriate language by stopping the student and using an effective one-liner, examples: “Positive language, please.” “We use appropriate language at our school.” “Use a better word instead of that word.”
- Encourage students to move quickly and quietly into classes by use of an effective one-liner, examples: “Walk and Talk” “Keep moving, please” “_____ minutes until the bell rings.” “The clock is ticking.” “Don’t be late.”
- Model use of courtesy words if you bump into someone; “Pardon me.” “Excuse me.” “Sorry about that.” “It was an accident.”
- Keep conversations with students brief as your attention will be taken away from supervision responsibilities.
- Monitor voice levels of students (in buildings).
Give positive feedback after passing periods and a reminder before passing periods: “Thank you for being on-time.” “Thank you for keeping you voices at level 3.” “Walk on the right.” “Walk and talk.”
