El Sereno Students Take Top Honors in District Spelling Bee
Congratulations to Jingyi Tan, Romy Rosas, and Alvin Le!
El Sereno Magnet student, Jingyi Tan, took 1st Place at the District 5 Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Mrs. Badgley and Mrs. Burnett were there to see her take the prize by spelling the word "dyslexic" correctly. Romy Rosas, an El Sereno Environmental Science Academy student, also did very well. Romy was in the competition all the way until the 8th and final round. Another El Sereno Magnet student, Alvin Le, made it quite far as well. Alvin was eliminated in the 4th round. In the end it came down to Jingyi and a student from Nightingale MS, who came in 2nd Place. Jingyi (Jenny) will now compete at the LA County Spelling Bee. Only one student is going on to the next level, and we are so proud that Jenny will represent our school and Magnet at the County Spelling Bee. The competition was tough--over 70 students from middle and elementary schools participated.
We are all very proud of these three students!!! Congratulations and keep up the great work!!!!
